Il Lago di Pergusa apre la scena ad una riflessione sul paesaggio, proprio per sottolineare il parallelo con ciò che è stato e che viene rapito costantemente nel nostro territorio.
Il luogo del rapimento del mito ed il giardino delle quattro stagioni, sono metafora di scempio e rinascita che caratterizza il nostro tempo.
Dal ricamo su tarlatana della mappa del più antico Orto Botanico dedicato alle quattro stagioni, e di quella del lago di Pergusa traspare il mito di Kore che, rapita dal Dio degli inferi e fatta sua sposa, diviene Persefone, regina degli inferi.
In base al suo ritorno sulla terra di sei mesi in sei mesi, concordato con Plutone per volontà della Madre Cerere, si manifesterà per sempre il ciclo delle stagioni.
L’installazione si compone anche di quattro setacci ricamati, seguendo il disegno delle mappe geografiche dei punti di sfogo del Mediterraneo.
Pergusa al Centro, un lago di acqua dolce, Gibilterra ad ovest, Suez a sud est, ed Istanbul ad est. Dal grembo del Mediterraneo, culla della cultura occidentale, il mito fluisce, attraverso l’acqua e tocca il resto del mondo, portando con se un messaggio di compromesso ma di speranza, essendo l’acqua purificatrice e fertile. Il suono delle quattro mappe sonore di terracotta, intagliate sul disegno delle quattro mappe ricamate, ed il suono del mare, dato da strumenti fatti di pelli e grano, incalza il perpetuarsi e l’evolversi del tempo grazie al rigenerarsi dei quattro elementi….

“Proserpina” 2013 – video – 12 min
Inspired by the myth of the rapt of Proserpina, the video traces the lines of a contemporary geography and its related landscape. Storytellers are two “nymphs” from Sicily: Rosa Termine, a biologist whose researches focused on the lake of Pergusa, and Sonia Macrì, an anthropologist and classicist teaching at Kore University in Enna.
Structured in four chapters (each 3-min long), the video is dedicated to the lake of Pergusa, the very place where, according to the myth, Proserpina’s rapt occurred; both “nymphs” shape the Sicilian geography intertwining myth to landscape and culture. The lake is the transit between two worlds, earth and hell… all begins with the rapt of the nymph Proserpina, daughter of Cerere the goddess of agriculture who seal an agreement with Zeus… the deal has the shape of both the wedding ring between Proserpina and Plutone and the circular racing motorway that since the 60s runs around the lake, raping its natural landscape.
Issues at the core of the video are the new technologies inspired by nature, the synergic behavioural actions and the value of Cerere’s myth teaching us that Nature will be fruitless when deprived of its dignity.
